A man has been charged in connection with an alleged serious assault which left a vulnerable man with burns to his legs.
The 25-year-old has been reported to the fiscal in connection with the alleged offence.
He has also been charged in connection with other recent fireraising incidents in the town.
He is expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court this week.
James Shaw, a 34-year-old homeless man, underwent treatment at the specialist burns at St John’s Hospital in Livingston having suffered injuries to his lower body in the incident in the Tower Court area of Nairn.
He was initially taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness before being transferred to Livingston after being found alight by a member of the public.
Mr Shaw is unemployed and had recently moved into a room at Nairn’s Star Hotel, although he still sometimes slept rough in the town.
It is understood that he originally comes from Fife and has family in Glenrothes. One of his regular haunts was the United Reform Church in the town’s King Street.
Minister the Rev Steven Manders described Mr Shaw as a “harmless soul”.
