A man who caused a head on crash on an Argyll licence kept his licence today.
Francis Kelly was airlifted to hospital following the crash Oban Sheriff Court was told.
Kelly, 69, pleaded guilty to driving carelessly on the A816 Oban to Lochgilphead road near Ardfern on August 6.
He admitted failing to negotiate a sharp left hand bend and crossing onto the opposing carriageway, colliding with a van and damaging both vehicles.
Kelly, of 1a Easter Langside Drive, Dalkeith, was fined £250 and had six points imposed on his driving licence.
Fiscal Eoin McGinty said: “The accused came round a very sharp left hand bend. His car drifted across onto the opposing carriageway. He hit head on with an oncoming van.
“The accused was airlifted to hospital in Glasgow with a suspected back injury. But it transpired he had only suffered bruising which didn’t require further treatment.
“The driver of the van only had a cut to his hand despite extensive damage to his vehicle.”
Solicitor Iain Tweedie said: “He worked in the pits as a miner but his pelvis was damaged in an accident and he later worked as a window cleaner. He suffers arthritis and has undergone a triple bypass. He walks with a stick, his vehicle is a mobility car.
“This was the first time since the death of his wife five years ago that he had gone on holiday, they used to come here all the time.
“He had driven more than 900 miles over the course of July and August. He was momentarily distracted and found himself on the other side of the road and involved in a collision. He accepts full responsibility for that.”
