A cargo vessel grounded on the west Highland coast has re-floated off its own accord.
The Lysblink Seaways ran aground on the coast of Ardnamurchan Point, Kilchoan, at around 2am on Wednesday.
The 423ft ship, believed to be carrying paper, was travelling from Belfast to Skogn in Norway when it ran into trouble.
However, last night the ship started to re-float once again naturally.
Stornoway Coastguard were alerted to the incident and have since been monitoring the vessel.
Yesterday the ship’s owner’s called in a tug boat from the River Clyde, the Kingdom of Fife, and another from Mallaig to assist the boat.
A Stornoway Coastguard spokesman said: “It sort of re-floated itself last night, they were just going to asses that first thing this morning. It kind of just came off by itself initially and the tugs are just standing by it just now.
“I think they are just going to assess it later. There was not reports of pollution last night.
“It is still in the hands of the tugs, the lifeboat is just 15 – 20 minutes away. We launched them last night to standby just in case.”
No-one was injured in the incident but yesterday diesel oil began leaking from the ship.
An absorbent boom was put in place in a bid to cope with the fuel escape and a temporary exclusion zone was also established around the ship.
It is now said to be anchored close to where it has been grounded for the past two days.
