The full roster of Orkney councillors will meet today to interview candidates to replace interim chief executive John Mundell.
Details remain scant. However, an announcement could come from Orkney Council as soon as tomorrow.
A special general meeting of the council is taking place at School Place, Kirkwall, in private.
According to council documents, “a presentation and a formal interview” is to be conducted by the full council today.
Mr Mundell, the council’s head of HR, and “an external advisor”, will also sit in.
This follows professional interviews and a stakeholder session yesterday.
This is the first time candidates have been interviewed for the post, during a two-year search for a new chief exec.
This is the fourth attempt to fill the chief exec job, with 58 candidates having been turned away and over £20,000 spent during the first three attempts.
John Mundell joined the isles council in June 2019, replacing the long-serving Alistair Buchan.
Mr Mundell had only been due to hold the interim chief exec position for around six months.
However, he remains in the role three years on, due to the pandemic and failed recruitment rounds.
