The shocking moment that a thief brazenly stole a man’s phone right in front of his children has been captured on CCTV.
In the video, uploaded by Jim Nicolson from Mambo’s Cafe in Aviemore, a man wearing black trousers, a black jacket, black sunglasses and white trainers, hides his dirty deeds by using a newspaper to camouflage his actions.
After entering the shop at around 11am and spotting the phone lying unguarded in front of Mr Nicolson’s two kids, who were playing with a tablet at the time, the man approaches the table and places a newspaper over the phone.
The thief is then caught sneaking the phone into his left hand under the newspaper before speedily exiting the Aviemore high street restaurant, taking glances left and right as he makes his getaway.
Since being uploaded to Facebook the video, which was recorded on Thursday, has been shared more than 1,400 times.
It is understood that the woman with a grey top that followed the man out of the cafe is Mr Nicolson’s partner Mandy, who was trying to offer the man directions that he has asked for.
Commenting on his uploaded video on Facebook, Mr Nicolson said: “That was Mandy that went out after him, he was speaking sh*** to her to distract her and then took the phone. She was trying to help him with directions she thought.”
Mr Nicolson added another comment: “If anyone can help me find out who he is, it would be greatly appreciated.”
A police spokesman said: “I can confirm that this matter is being investigated.”
