Runners are to descend on the Western Isles next year to mark the return of the a half marathon.
Scores of athletes will take to the streets of Stornoway on Saturday, May 27 as the 38th annual Autoparts Stornoway Half Marathon and 10K gets under way.
The event is organised by Stornoway Running & Athletics Club.
Participants will endure a mix of terrain, including road and trail, as the race starts and ends in the heart of Stornoway on the inner harbour.
Organisers are now appealing for participants to sign up to help make next year’s event a success.
Entry lines will open from 5pm on Friday, November 18.
Jonathan Fairgrieve, SRAC Club captain, said: “We are so pleased to be able to host the Stornoway Half Marathon, thanks to our event sponsors Autoparts Stornoway Ltd.
“In its 38th year the half marathon is one of the main highlights in the Hebridean running calendar and forms part of the larger Heb Half Marathon Series, which we hope to see back in its full form this year.
“The Stornoway Half is a great way to see the wonderful sights of Lewis and Harris and experience some true Hebridean hospitality. We hope to see you all there in 2023.”
What can entrants expect?
The popular half marathon event has been taking place on the island since 1984.
The course takes runners on a tour of the Western Isles town before taking to the forest trails situated on the Lews Castle Grounds.
The event will be brought to a close with a post-race buffet followed by a ceilidh in the evening.
The event will also feature the 10K race as well as a Fun Run.
