Football boots signed by legendary footballers Pele and Diego Maradona have raised £3,000 for a Fort William school.
The mementoes from two of football’s most recognised talents were raffled off to raise money for the pipe and wind bands at Lochaber High School.
News of the rare items being up for grabs spread across the country last month after it was announced the Highland school had secured the boots, complete with certificates of authenticity.
Pele hit the world stage as a teenage talent in the 1958 World Cup and went on to win the tournament three times with some of the finest Brazil teams of all-time.
Maradona, from Argentina, who died in 2020, is one of football’s most notorious figures, capable of fine displays of talent while also attracting controversy.
In the 1986 World Cup he punched the ball into the net against England to score what is now known as the “Hand of God” goal, while also scoring one of the most celebrated goals of all-time in the same match.
Veterans link secures boots for Lochaber High
Lochaber High brass instructor Mark Reynolds explained the boots were gifted to the group from a member of The Commando Association to be raffled to raise funds.
The school and the group have links going back many years with them coming together for concerts and parades for the annual Remembrance events.
Tickets were set at £2 each to give every child in the area a chance at winning the boots to proudly display at home.
Winners were announced following the annual Remembrance concert with Lochaber High School musicians and The Commando Association.
The Maradona and Pele boots were the top two prizes in the Lochaber High raffle with a third prize of £100 cash also being given away.
