A rescue operation is currently underway after a man fell more than 600ft on Ben Nevis.
He was part of a group of four mountaineers who became stranded in a “white out”.
The climber fell around 650ft after they got lost in snowy conditions and strayed too close to the edge of Coire Eoghainn.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team had 26 of its volunteers out looking for them.
The team reported just before 8pm that one of its members had reached the casualty, who was going to be lowered to a point where he could be stretchered off.
The other three were recovered and taken off the mountain.
The rescue effort was launched yesterday afternoon.
The alert followed police in Fort William receiving a call from one person in the group at 2pm requesting assistance.
Volunteers from Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team were called out and led the rescue effort into the evening.
A Royal Navy Sea King search and rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet shore station at Prestwick was also asked to assist soon after 3pm.
Avalanche risk on the mountain was reported to be “considerable” with a period of instability early in the night as the snowpack became saturated in the mild conditions.
However the cooler conditions expected later in the night were expected to consolidate the existing snowpack.
