A 75-year-old man is in serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car in Inverness.
The pensioner was walking along Old Perth Road, close to the Shell garage, shortly after 5pm on Sunday evening when he was hit by a light blue Citreon C1.
Emergency crews raced to the scene after the alarm was raised around 5.10pm.
The 75-year-old was taken to nearby Raigmore Hospital where he is described as being in a serious but stable condition.
The female driver of the car was not injured.
Investigation launched by police
The road was closed for around seven hours as officers placed a cordon around the area.
Motorists were diverted away from the Inverness street as teams worked at the scene.
An investigation is now underway to establish the events leading up to the incident.
Police are urging anyone with information to get in touch and aid them with their inquiries.
Sergeant Calum MacAuley said: “Our inquiries are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw the crash to contact us.
“I would also appeal to anyone with a dash cam which may hold images that could assist us to get in touch.”
