Artists from across the Highlands are being asked to submit their ideas for the creation of Covid community memorials across the region.
Remembering Together is a nationwide programme that aims to help communities recover from and reflect on the pandemic through memorials.
All other regions are well on their way to creating their memorials, but the Highland branch of the initiative has only just opened for submissions. Lyth Arts Centre is managing the project for the Highlands and will select an artist to lead communities through the development of the memorials.
The chosen artist will be granted £15,000 to liaise with locals and come up with a vision – which could take any form from physical to natural, digital to permanent, temporary or touring.
Once the idea has been set, a further £100,000 will be granted by greenspace scotland and the Scottish Government for its creation.
Creating the memorials
In Aberdeenshire, Claudia Zeiske walked approximately 155 miles from Ben Macdui to Peterhead gathering tales from across the region to inspire its memorials.
Robbie Thomson is leading the project in the Western Isles and is running events and workshops to collect ideas from locals.
It is hoped the memorials will commemorate those who were impacted by the pandemic.
Interested artists for the Highlands need to fill out an application form detailing their understanding of the brief, providing examples of their work and explaining how they would engage with communities throughout the project.
The deadline for applications is 10am on December 6, find out more here.
