A body has been found just hours after a fresh police appeal to find missing Shetland woman Sharon O’Neill.
The 46-year-old was last seen in Lerwick near the Northlink Ferry Terminal on Holmsgarth Road on Sunday.
It was initially thought she was last seen at around 5.30pm but further inquiries have revealed it was closer to 7pm.
Coastguard teams from Lerwick and Sumburgh carried out searches for the missing woman for the past few days, with police becoming increasingly concerned.
Inspector Sam Greshon said: “No one has seen or heard from Sharon and our concern is growing. Her family is understandably worried.
“I would ask people on the island to check their outbuildings, garages and garden sheds in case Sharon has sought shelter. If anyone has any information about Sharon then please contact police.”
Although no formal identification has taken place, Ms O’Neill’s next of kin have been informed.
