Nearly 7,000 people in Argyll and Bute will get a share of an £800,000 scheme, set up to ease the financial pressure on low-income families.

Residents in receipt of council tax reduction are asked to keep an eye for a specially branded letter, expected to come through their letter boxes at the end of the month.

Each letter will include a Scotland Loves Local gift card worth £120, which can be used in more than 200 businesses across the region.

These include supermarket chains like Aldi and Morrisons, as well as independent retailers, restaurants and gift shops.

Boost for businesses and families

The project has been launched by Argyll and Bute Council and is part of a £1.48 million Covid Economic Recovery Funding package.

It aims to support residents with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and provide an economic boost to local businesses recovering from the impact of the pandemic.

Council leader Robin Currie said: “We know that many residents across Argyll and Bute are facing huge pressures with the cost-of-living crisis.

“The gift card aims to provide residents with extra spending, particularly in the run up to Christmas.

“It also provides a welcome boost to local businesses and helps to support jobs across the area.”

How does it work?

Eligible households will receive envelopes branded Love Local Argyll and Bute at the end of November or early December.

People will receive two letters.

  • The first letter will confirm you are eligible for the gift card. It includes everything you need to know about activating your card, including a unique code. Please keep this letter safe.
  • The second letter – issued shortly after – will include your gift card.
  • Once activated, you can use your gift card in any of the participating businesses. More information about the activation process can be found on the council’s website.

Meanwhile, businesses in Argyll and Bute can sign up to the gift card scheme by registering on the Scotland Loves Local website.
