Housing on the island of Gigha is set to be boosted by a grant from the local authority.
An affordable housing development earmarked for Gigha has received £160,000 in financial support from Argyll and Bute Council.
The development will deliver five new affordable homes to support older and younger island residents.
The west coast authority aims to help bridge the gap between the cost of the project and funding previously secured by the Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust from the Scottish Government and other sources.
Council leader Robin Currie, who is also the policy lead for economy and rural growth, said: “Developing housing options across the area is a priority for the council. To attract and retain the people and skills we all need in Argyll and Bute, there has to be a range of homes on offer.
“There’s a high level of housing need on Gigha. This additional funding from the Strategic Housing Fund will help develop the island’s housing stock to meet demand.”
The project aims to protect the area’s future by encouraging young people to stay and work on the island.
Overall costs include the construction of the houses and the high costs of delivering island infrastructure needed to support the new homes.
The Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust was established in 2001 and took ownership of the majority of the island following the community land buyout.
