Lerwick’s Christmas tree has arrived ahead of the annual festive period this weekend.
The Market Cross tree was transported to Shetland from Norway by Northwards and NorthLink, and put in place by Living Lerwick.
Three additional trees have also been gifted to Lerwick Town Hall, Scalloway and Whalsay for the festive season.
The 25-ft tree will be decorated with lights and will be the centrepiece of the festive light show in the centre ahead of the parade on Saturday, December 3.
It will feature Santa arriving on Victoria Pier by Lerwick lifeboat instead of the traditional sleigh.
In addition to the parade on Saturday, over 52 businesses will be at the Toll Clock Christmas Market.
These include Kaleidoscope Designs, The Annex, The Chocolate Box, Aurora Wax Melts & Gifts, and Fyanna Bakery & Patisserie.
Santa will be present the following two weekends at the Winter Wonderland Grotto following an absence last year due to Covid.
Living Lerwick chairman, Steve Mathieson said: “While the nights are longer and darker, it’s certainly beginning to feel more festive with the lights up and now the tree.
“The assistance we get from the couriers to get it here is very much appreciated by the town centre business community, who provide this tree for the public to enjoy while Christmas shopping.”
