For most people, the thought of a trip to the dentist is unbearable.
But for Walker, one of the Highland Wildlife Park’s two resident polar bears, regular check-ups can mean the difference between life and death.
If he suffered his painful dental injuries in the wild, it could spell death for the massive beast, but thankfully Walker has the support of a crack team of vets, x-ray specialists and the staff of the Wildlife Park to make sure his fangs are in peak condition.
Since joining the park in 2010, the 82-stone bear has already sat in the dentists chair three times for treatment for his troublesome tooth, which was removed.
Head Keeper for Carnivores at the Highland Wildlife Park Una Richardson said: “It is a testament to his veterinary and animal keeping team that his problems have been spotted in the course of his animal training sessions and by observation of subtle changes in his behaviour.”
Thankfully the check-up only revealed a chip on one of Walkers teeth, although it is doubtful that he will be sent away with a lollipop.
