A north hospital ward reopened this morning after being closed because of a norovirus outbreak.
The Bignold Wing at Caithness General Hospital in Wick stopped new admissions at the weekend as staff dealt with several cases of diarrhoea and vomiting.
Samples confirmed that norovirus was present on the ward.
Pauline Craw, rural general hospital manager for NHS Highland, said that as there had been 48 hours since patients were symptomatic staff were able to deep clean the ward and reopen it.
While both wards have been able to open, norovirus is still prevalent in the community and is highly infectious. People should therefore not visit the hospital if they have, or live with someone who has, had any vomiting or diarrhoea within the previous 48 hours.
The best course of action is to stay at home and to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. People should also adhere to strict hand washing techniques to reduce the spread of the virus.
