Police have confirmed that a known paedophile has been found and arrested in the Oban area.
Several schools were put on alert when police visited to warn teachers to look out for Paul Vernon, 58.
Former Royal Navy submariner Vernon was jailed for five-and-a-half years for sex attacks on a child.
In 2010, Vernon was jailed for five-and-a-half years for molesting a girl and having sex in front of her.
However, he has now been found and arrested, with police releasing a statement saying: “West Mercia Police can confirm that with the assistance of Police Scotland, Paul Vernon. Vernon is currently under arrest and will be remanded in custody.
“Vernon was found today at 13:50 in the Oban area following a call made by a member of the public following the issuing of a media appeal for information.
“West Mercia Police would like to thank the local community for their support in identifying the location of Vernon and for the strong support received from Police Scotland, which has lead to the apprehension of Paul Vernon.”
