A man has been airlifted to hospital after spending a night on Scotland’s highest mountain.
The hillwalker was found in the Coire Eoghainn area of Ben Nevis this morning after being reported overdue by his partner last night.
A search to find the walker was launched last night, but was called off in the dark.
He was airlifted to Belford Hospital by RAF helicopter Rescue 137.
A police spokeswoman said the man had been taken for “assement” and his condition is currently unknown.
Lochaber MRT issued a statement reminding walkers about the need for winter equipment such crampons and ice axes on Ben Nevis in current conditions.
They also paid tribute to the RAF, who are handing over search and rescue duties to Bristows at the start of next month.
A spokesman said: “Special thanks to the Yellow Budgie – Rescue 137, as this maybe its last deployment to Lochaber in anger.
“The guys and gals have been brilliant over the years and it has been no different last night and today flying in difficult conditions.
“We will miss the helicopters, crews and banter. Thanks guys for all your assistance over the years and look forward to seeing some of you in the new shiny red and white S92s.”
