The Rhodesian ridgeback, called Crouton, had been on a walk with its owners at the cliffs at Durness when it disappeared down the steep embankment. Shetland Coastguard received a 999 call around 3.50pm, and launched two coastguard teams to rescue the pup. A coastguard spokesman said: “An SSPCA inspector from the area also attended.” The owners thought their dog had fallen around 100ft, but the rescue team estimated it to be around 40ft. One of the crew abseiled down the cliff face to save the stricken animal. He was found safe and well and suffered no injuries.
