Emergency services were called to the South Head Quarry, near Wick, at around 10.10pm on Sunday night. It is understood that the man, who is in his 20s, fell and was badly injured. Assistance was sought from Shetland Coastguard, which dispatched the rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth. The rescue crew landed on the mouth of the quarry and lifted the man to safety. A police spokesman said yesterday said that the man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he is in a serious but stable condition. The spokesman added that the man was expected to be transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
