A severe weather warning has been issued in the Highlands. Heavy rain and strong winds are to fall on the north-west of the region, with a flood alert in place for Skye and Lochaber. Met Office forecast The downpours are expected to start this afternoon and continue until 5am on Wednesday. The showers could lead to localised flooding with almost 100mm of water expected to settle on higher ground. Drivers are urged to take caution as the weather will make for difficult driving conditions. The forecast comes just a week after the country basked in Easter sunshine with temperatures soaring higher than Istanbul. Last year, the Rest and Be Thankful on the A83 Tarbet to Campbeltown road was hit by a landslide due to bad weather. An emergency diversion road was used on the landslide-prone route in November as forecasters warned of heavy rain.
