The blaze broke out at the Spean Bridge Hotel yesterday afternoon, prompting a major operation by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The property is well known for its Commando Bar, which was the favourite drinking spot for the heroes of World War II. Luckily no guests were in the hotel at the time and staff were able to alert the fire service before it spread further. A fire spokesman said that their crews remained on scene until 10.50pm last night. He said that there was 75% fire, smoke and water damage to the main dining room and bar lounge, and 15% smoke and fire damage to three bedrooms.
