A family business has been destroyed in a dramatic overnight fire in a remote Highland village.
Fire crews spent 12 hours battling the blaze from shortly before 1am yesterday.
The fire wrecked a B&B at Glenan Cross Farm at Morar.
Appliances from nearby Mallaig and two others from Fort William went to the after a 999 call was made at 12.50am.
A total of 19 firefighters in breathing apparatus used two jets to tackle the flames.
Those inside the house, which is understood to be owned by George Pendrigh, escaped uninjured.
The roof of the building collapsed. Much of the home was left blackened by the flames.
Both appliances from Fort William left the scene at 6.55am. The Mallaig appliance left soon afterwards, but returned at noon to check for any remaining hotspots.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, but it is not being treated as suspicious.
Fire service group manager, Pat McElhinney, said: “Thankfully everyone was outside the property. But with limited water supplies, a remote location and a gale force wind the fire quickly took hold and engulfed the entire property.
“The actions of the first crews need to be commended as the incident commander, John Edgar, quickly assessed the property and found two gas cylinders at the rear of the and removed them immediately so they would not be involved in the fire.
“We were also able to protect several properties around the building as well and a van and motor bike from becoming involved in the fire, they suffered no damage as a result of our actions.”
Local councillor Bill Clark described the situation as a “real tragedy”.
He said: “It’s absolutely awful, shocking. I am obviously pleased that there has been no injuries and that is certainly the priority.
“It is hard to take in something like that when you know the area. It is a lovely area and there are a few new houses down there and a number of B&Bs, and I am really sorry to hear this has happened.”
One local who witnesses the blaze said: “There is nothing left of the house but a smoking, burnt out shell of a structure.”
