Thousands of handcrafted scale models went on show in Fort William over the weekend as enthusiasts gathered with their miniature works.
The model show welcomed 34 exhibitors from across the north who each contributed between 20 and 100 models, including buses, planes, boats, cars and tractors.
The centrepiece of the show was a 12ft replica of the Royal Navy’s HMS Ark Royal, built by former members of the Lochaber Model Club over a period of months before the group disbanded in 2001.
The former model club had previously staged exhibitions but were thrilled to dust off their work for a special reappearance after more than a decade.
Organiser Robert Wilson, who has been building models for 15 years, said: “There were literally thousands of models on display. Some of the guys put in scenery and set everything up in layers and some of them set the scene of a truck yard or a transport cafe. The public attended in large numbers and they were genuinely interested and the comments they made were very appreciative.
“Model building is dying out. In saying that, there were a lot of children with their parents at the show. Part of this whole thing is to try and encourage children to get involved and to get them to see that they may be interested in doing something like this.
“Most kids used to build air fix models and hung them up in their bedrooms, and this is about regenerating a bit of that interest and showing that there is other things available rather than sitting at computers.”
Local sponsors for the model show were Corpach-based Ferguson Transport and Shipping, Cameron S&A from Spean Bridge and Caley Timber and Building Supplies from Inverness.
Visitors to the display at Duncansburgh MackIntosh parish church raised a total of £1,080 with Lochaber Mountain Rescue team to benefit from the funds.
