An incumbent north Liberal Democrat MP has admitted he and his Highland colleagues “look like we are all ex-MPs now”.
Arriving at the count in Dingwall, Caithness, Sutherland and Easter incumbent John Thurso predicted “an SNP landslide”.
Mr Thurso has held his seat since 2001 but admitted that he was expecting to lose his seat, along with fellow Lib Dem MPs Danny Alexander and Charles Kennedy.
He added: “I don’t think anyone will be ordering a case of champagne.”
He said he was “contemplating more gardening” following the election.
Mr Thurso said the SNP had created a “formidable brand” – but said they would have to held to account after the election.
