The Highlands could lose six councillors under major new changes to boundaries.
Highland Council currently has 80 councillors – but a review by the Local Government Boundary Commission has recommended cutting this to 74.
Most of the recommended changes affect Inverness city wards and Caithness.
The full council will discuss the recommendations at a meeting of the full council on Thursday, although some members have suggested further changes to the proposals laid out by the commission.
The changes are proposed to ensure roughly the same number of electors per councillors in each area, as well as take account of projected population changes over the next five years.
However, some members have already raised concern about the proposals.
Under the proposed changes, Caithness would lose two councillors.
The Landward Caithness ward, currently represented by four members, would be disbanded and incorporated into two new four member wards.
Caithness councillors have agreed that the number of members representing the county should be cut.
However, they argue that nine councillors should be spread between three wards, retaining the Landward Caithness area.
A number of other wards face possible changes to their boundaries, with Ardersier potentially being moved from Culloden to a new ward with Nairn.
Nairn councillors have requested that they take control of the Cawdor area, while Culloden councillors have asked to retain Ardersier.
The Black Isle, which is proposed to lose one councillor, would lose the Redcastle area, which would be added to the Dingwall and Seaforth ward.
Inverness would also lose three members – one each from the Central, Ness-Side and Culloden wards.
Part of Dalneigh is proposed to be transferred to the Inverness West ward from Inverness Central, while Inverness Ness-Side would also lose part of the Hilton area.
That would be taken on by Inverness Millburn, which would also gain Inverness Retail Park and Resaurie.
These have not been opposed by local councillors.
