A ward at the Western Isles’ biggest hospital has been closed after an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.
NHS Western Isles says that a “small number of patients and staff” at Stornoway’s Western Isles Hospital have experienced symptoms of norovirus.
Health chiefs have stopped admissions to Ward 2 at the Western Isles Hospital and visiting to the ward has been restricted in order to stop the bug’s spread.
Patients with symptoms have been isolated in single rooms.
The outbreak has occurred just weeks after NHS Highland had to close several wards during a sustained outbreak at Inverness’s Raigmore Hospital.
A spokeswoman for NHS Western Isles said: “Visitors to any other areas of the hospital are specifically being reminded to wash their hands with soap and water before and after visiting, and to stay at home if they have experienced any norovirus symptoms.
