Residents in Fort William were last night evacuated from a block of flats after an unidentified device was discovered.
Explosive specialist teams were sent to the scene, sparking fears of a bomb threat, however, police have today moved to reassure residents.
At 8:20pm last night, officers arrived at the scene in the Ross Place area of Fort William, with residents evacuated shortly after, however, police have confirmed that nobody was harmed and the public were not in danger.
A police spokesman said: “Due to the presence of an unidentified device in the address, Scottish Fire and Rescue and EOD were called to assist.
“A small number of residents were evacuated as a precaution while appropriate actions were taken.
“No one was injured and at no time was there any danger to the public.
“Police would like to thank local residents for their patience as they now return to their homes.”
Police also confirmed that a 17-year-old man was detained but in relation to a separate matter.
