Two appliances – one each from Pitlochry and Kingussie – attended the incident about three miles south of Dalwhinnie on the A9 Inverness-Perth road. The empty tanker, which was heading north, caught fire while parked in a layby. A fire service spokesman said that dashboard within the cab of the lorry was “completely destroyed” by the fire. The blaze was extinguished by about 9.40am this morning and the road is open.
