A teenage driver was killed in a car crash in the west Highlands at the weekend.
The 18-year-old was the fifth person to die on the north’s roads in the space of just a week.
The driver, who has not yet been named, died after his car left the A830 Road to the Isles about two miles north of Arisaig just after 3.30am on Saturday.
It is understood that he was from the Lochaber area.
The Fort William-Mallaig road was closed for about 10 hours while police carried out an investigation at the scene.
It is thought the car crashed through a wooden fence and plunged to the bottom of an embankment.
No other vehicles were involved and the 18-year-old was alone in his car at the time.
Police, paramedics and two fire crews, one from Mallaig and the other from Fort William were all sent to the scene.
Meanwhile, tributes have been paid to a young Ross-shire woman who was killed in a horrific crash on Friday.
The woman, named locally as Ava Milne from Tain, died when her Renault Clio and a Volvo collided on the B9175 between Arabella and Nigg.
Friends of the 29-year-old paid tribute to her on social media.
Nicola McAuley said: “RIP Ava, taken too soon. One of my first ever friends I made when moved to Scotland.
“You will be missed. Thoughts go out to your family.”
Nicola Skinner added: “Rest in peace Ava, thoughts are with your family at this sad time.
“Makes your realise how short life is. Cherish every moment.”
Miss Milne died at the scene of the accident, just minutes after leaving her work at the Global Energy Group fabrication yard at Nigg.
GEG paid tribute to a “hard working, popular and valued member of staff”.
