Visitors to Wester Ross will soon get a new view of one of the area’s most beautiful lochs.
Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) has started work on a new viewing platform at Slattadale, near Loch Maree.
It will replace a similar structure that was destroyed 10 years ago when wind blew down trees in the area.
Jack Mackay, of FCS, said: “There were some fairly huge Douglas fir trees blown over at this site and they damaged the original, sub-standard viewing platform.
“It was never replaced because the rock it had sat on was found to be in poor condition. Subsequent storms also blew over more of the trees until for safety and acccess reasons we eventually had to fell everything.
“This then gave us the opportunity to redesign the site to improve it for visitors.”
The commission last year created a new circular path to takes visitors up to the viewpoint over Loch Maree, improved the visitor area by removing trees around the entrance and the car park and upgraded the car park itself.
The project is being funded by Garbhaig Hydro Solutions Ltd, which is developing a hydro scheme above the site,
Mr Mackay added: “This new bit of work is a long overdue upgrade and enhancement to a well-visited site. Many people have a long-standing affection for the place and we hope that the new platform will provide visitors with a new experience of a fantastic place.”
