A north lifeboat was called out when four anglers who were thought to be in distress – but it turned out that they were simply excited about catching a fish.
The alarm was raised on Sunday night when the group were seen fishing off Black Rock near Portree Harbour on Skye, about half a mile from the shore.
A Stornoway Coastguard spokesman said a member of Portree lifeboat crew spotted the supposed panic and both the inshore and all weather lifeboats were launched at about 10.25pm.
But upon arrival, the crew soon found that the men, who were in a small angling boat, were celebrating their catch and not crying for help.
A Stornoway Coastguard spokesman said: “The volunteers said that when they arrived they realised the men were shouting in excitement after catching a fish. The guys were left to it after that as they were not in any distress. The lifeboat crew were back in by about 11pm.”
