An initial agreement for a major redesign of hospital services on Skye has been approved by the north’s health board.
The case for funding for the project is to be submitted to the Scottish Parliament’s Scottish Capital Investment Group next month.
The plans involve building a new hospital in Broadford and a smaller spoke facility in Portree. They were signed off by Scottish Government health secretary Shona Robison earlier this year.
A campaign group was set up after concerns were raised that the changes would have a detrimental effect on people living in the north of Skye.
NHS Highland project director Gill McVicar said a meeting involving members of the campaign group had been “productive”.
The board’s chairman Garry Coutts said the initial agreement was a “significant step in the process” but said that NHS Highland would work with the community on the finalised future design of the services.
