A woman found with serious injuries in a Highland town has been transferred to hospital in Glasgow.
The 27-year-old, who has not been named, was found near steps between Fassifearn Road and Union Road in Fort William early this morning.
She was taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William but flown by helicopter to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow later in the morning.
Officers are now trying to piece together what happened to her, with one theory being that she fell down a steep embankment.
The area remained cordoned off this morning and there was a police presence in the area.
A police spokesman said that the force was appealing for information from the public, adding that the woman was found “with serious injuries after appearing to have fallen down a nearby embankment”.
He added: “If anyone was in the area between 11pm last night (Tuesday) and 6am this morning, or may have any information about the incident, they are urged to contact police on 101.”
