The A9 was closed in both directions following a crash at Tain on Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened on the Inverness to Thurso road near its junction with the B9174, shortly after midday.
The number of vehicles and the severity of any injuries is currently unknown.
The route was closed to all traffic for around two hours in the aftermath of the crash.
Motorists were reportedly being turned away by police, as crews dealt with the incident.
The road has since reopened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.50am on Saturday we were called to a two-vehicle crash on the A9 at the junction with the B9174.
“Emergency services attended and two people were taken to hospital.
“One driver will be reported in connection with a road traffic offence.”
