A coastguard helicopter and Kirkwall Lifeboat were called out in the early hours of this morning to search for a missing man on Shapinsay, Orkney.
A spokeswoman for the coastguard said: “Shetland Coastguard was asked by Kirkwall police to assist the search for a missing person on the island of Shapinsay, Orkney.
“The coastguard tasked Kirkwall Lifeboat which transferred police officers to the island. We also scrambled the Rescue 900 helicopter from Sumburgh. It was sent to Shapinsay to assist with the search but was stood down en route because the person was located.”
A police spokesman said: “We received a report at 11.58pm about concern for a missing man. A search was launched and he was found at 1.27am.”
