Intensive boot-camp training sessions are taking place this week for amateur models taking to the catwalk in this year’s Highland Fashion Week.
Twenty female models aged 14-28, were recruited via a social media “selfie” competition, will learn how to present fashions by Highland and national designers, ending with a showpiece Fairytale Fashion Ball on Friday, October 9.
Highland Fashion Week is taking place between October 7-11 at venues across the Highlands, including Inverness, Nairn and Wick and aims to give designers a platform to show off their latest styles.
During the model bootcamp, taking place at the IG:LU arts venue in Inverness this week, the girls and women will take part in team-building events and receive free tuition on walking on a runway, posing techniques and choreography.
Garry James, director of fashion week organisers We are Giraffe, said: “We wanted to involve Highlands people in putting together our shows, and we are looking forward to working with our models to give them top-level skills which could help them towards a career in modelling.
“We recruited younger models and male models as well and they will be given specialist advice and training separately.
“The bootcamp will help the models to become a close-knit team, who will present a fabulous show at the Fairytale Fashion Ball. The girls are all lovely and it is going to be fantastic fun.”
As well of as the Fairytale Fashion Ball, the events will include a tie-dying session, and a sophisticated cruise along Loch Ness will combine fashion with entertainment.
The final event, taking place at the Ironworks in Inverness on Sunday, October 11 is aimed at young people aged 12-years-old and upwards, and will be attended by reality television star and fashion icon, Joey Essex.
Standard tickets for the Fairytale Fashion Ball are priced at £15 and VIP passes at £25. Tickets can be purchased from www.highlandfashionweek.com.
