Police have confirmed that the body of a woman found off the north coast of Caithness is that of an Australian tourist.
Lynne Radke was reported missing last week after she failed to return to the guest house at John O’Groats where she had been staying during her holiday in the Highlands.
A massive search was launched, involving officers from across the Highlands and Islands, teams from HM Coastguard and the RNLI lifeboats and the Police Scotland Dog Unit.
Sightings of the 46-year-old were reported from as afar afield as Dingwall to Orkney.
However, police revealed on Friday that a body had been recovered near Duncansby Head, Caithness.
Police have now confirmed that the body belongs to Ms Radke.
Her family have spoken of their devastation, but also thanked officers for their tireless efforts to find her.
“It is with great regret and sadness to confirm that Lynne Radke, our daughter, sister and auntie’s body was found off the coast of northern Scotland,” they said in a statement released through police.
“As a family we find comfort in her peace.
“We are truly grateful to the officers at Wick Police Station that have handled this difficult situation with professionalism and genuine care. We also find comfort in the assistance of the local community who have helped us in our search.
“We maintained hope for a better outcome.
“Arrangements will be announced over the coming weeks.”
A police spokesman added that the cause of death does not appear to be suspicious.
“A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, as is procedure in these circumstances,” he said.
