Hillwalkers in parts of Sutherland have been warned that GPS navigation devices will be jammed in the next two weeks because of a major military exercise
Two main areas will be affected at various times between today and Thursday, October 15.
The satellite signal will be blocked as part of exercises for the Nato war games Joint Warrior.
Much of the operation will focus in and around the Minch and to the west of the Outer Hebrides.
The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) issued a warning to mountaineers not to rely solely on electronic navigation during the exercise.
Particularly affected will be Cape Wrath including two Corbetts – Foinaven and Arkle – as well as Loch Ewe, including the Fisherfield and An Teallach hills.
A spokesman for the MCofS said: “If you are heading to the hills in these areas and on these days, please be aware and be prepared.
“We would always advise walkers not to rely solely on electronic devices, but it is particularly important over the next couple of weeks.”
A full list of times that signals will be jammed is available on the MCofS website.
