Former Highland MP Sir Danny Alexander has appealed for hillwalkers to assist police with searches for a missing man in Glencoe who has not been seen for two weeks.
Robin Garton, 69, was last seen on the morning of Friday, September 25, setting off for a walk in the area.
A major search has been under way since but so far no sign has been found of the hillwalker, who is from Devizes in Wiltshire.
Mr Garton’s son Will worked for Mr Alexander when he was chief secretary to the treasury in the previous government.
Mr Alexander said: “I know from working with his son, how much Robin loved the Highlands and I am appealing to anyone out walking in Glencoe on Friday, September 25 to think carefully about whether they may have seen him.”
Organised searches are to continue this weekend – while police have also appealed to members of the public to help with their search.
South Highland area commander Brian Mackay said: “This weekend brings the start of the October school holidays so it is predicted Glencoe and the surrounding areas will see an increase in hillwalkers and visitors.
“Officers are appealing to those planning to visit the area to consider the appeal for information and report anything that may assist the search, no matter how insignificant they may feel it to be, to police on 101.”
Searches have continued throughout the week for Mr Garton, with a police dive team searching the River Coe and surrounding areas.
This weekend police officers and dog handlers will continue the search with members of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team who will be covering routes Mr Garton may have taken.
The missing hillwalker checked out of the Kings House Hotel in Glencoe at about 8am on the Friday morning and his car, a black Volkswagen Passat estate was found at Achnambeithach a few miles further north.
Searches have focused on the Aonach Eagach ridge and Bidean Nam Bian area, though the wider Glencoe area has also been searched.
Mr Garton is an experienced hillwalker and is described as 6ft 2in and of slim to medium build with fair hair which is slightly balding.
He occasionally wears glasses but it is not known what he was wearing when he set out last week.
Anyone with information which could help the search should contact police on 101.
