Trade union activists will be out in force in Oban at the Royal National Mod on Saturday as the RMT continues to fight any attempt to privatise lifeline CalMac ferry services.
RMT members will be handing out badges and stickers as well as postcards for members of the public to complete and return via freepost to their MSP with the message: “Keep CalMac Public”.
The union will have a lively presence at the pier in the town as well as in the square and other town centre locations from around 10am.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT is working with politicians and communities across Scotland as we fight to keep CalMac out of the claws of SERCO and firmly in public hands.
“This weekend’s events in Oban are part of a national campaign that is drawing in widespread support and which those in political power will simply not be able to ignore.”
CalMac and Serco are bidding for the new contract to run Clyde and Hebrides ferry services.
The process to appoint a contractor to the ferries network has seen trade unions clash with CalMac and the Scottish Government.
