A memorial service is to be held for a hillwalker who went missing in Glencoe nearly six weeks ago.
Robin Garton was last seen on Friday September 25 and despite extensive searches the 69-year-old from Devizes in Wiltshire has not been found.
The charity worker’s family has organised a service to take place at St Johns Church, Devizes, on December 11.
Mr Garton’s son Will said they were preparing for the worst. He said: “You can’t put your life on hold but it’s important to us to mark him – to have a service to recognise the huge contribution he made as a family man, a businessman and as a campaigner on climate change.
“We’re obviously realistic and pragmatic but you can’t quite extinguish the one-in-10million chance that he might come back.”
Mr Garton checked out of the Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe at 8am on September 25.
Police traced his black Volkswagen Passat estate car to the Achnambeithach car park, off the A82 Inverness to Glasgow trunk road by Loch Achtriochtan.
He was last seen walking towards the Aonach Eagach Ridge.
Rescue teams including Glencoe Mountain rescue have repeatedly scoured the area, using sniffer dogs on the hill and divers in the loch. A helicopter and camera drone used to search remote areas have also drawn a blank.
Mr Garton jnr said: “The team there say they’re baffled. Normally they find people much more quickly then this but so far, for whatever reason, they’ve been unsuccessful.
“It’s a living nightmare, the not knowing is the worst thing imaginable.”
Rescue teams have promised to continue searching the area until he is found.
It is believed Mr Garton may have had made plans to walk in the Coire Nam Beith or Bidean Nam Bian areas.
