Further bad weather is expected tomorrow, with warnings of severe gales forecast to hit the north.
The Met Office has issued a yellow “be aware” warning for high winds from 12pm tomorrow until 11.45pm.
The agency have warned that the gale force winds are likely to cause disruption to road and ferry travel, while the winds are likely to be strong enough to bring down branches and uproot trees.
The weather warning covers much of Scotland, including all of the Highlands, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.
The strongest winds are expected in the islands and west coast of the mainland with gusts of up to 75mph forecast.
The Met Office said there was “uncertainty” over how the winds would effect inland areas, though gusts of up to 60mph in all areas are expected.
A spokeswoman said: “The worst of the weather is expected from about 12pm on Friday with southwesterly gales affecting most of Scotland, but especially western parts.
“Difficult travelling conditions are to be expected, while the winds are likely to be strong enough to uproot trees with the already saturated ground.”
Calmer conditions are expected today, with more gentle winds and temperatures in the “low to medium single figures”, according to the Met Office spokeswoman.
She added: “It will be better than it has been and better than it will be later in the week.”
