A Ross-shire man has been jailed for a year after he and his younger brother attacked a farmer after a New Year football match in Dingwall.
David Greig, 26, previously admitted attempting to punch Lee Dunn outside the Mallard Bar on January 1 after the Ross County vs Inverness Caledonian Thistle game in the Highland town.
At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday, Sheriff Margaret Neilson told David Greig his attitude was “frankly depressing” and said jail was the only option.
His brother Jordan Greig, 22, was unanimously found guilty after an earlier trial of striking Mr Dunn with a plastic tumbler on his head to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement. He will re-appear for sentence on December 21 after a drug treatment and testing order has been prepared.
Sheriff Neilson heard the pair, both of 44 Westford, Alness, had numerous previous convictions for assault.
The trial was told that 28-year-old Mr Dunn was scarred for life in the fracas, after suffering a two-inch cut to the left side of his forehead.
Jordan Greig claimed it was self defence as he feared an attack by Mr Dunn.
But the jury rejected this after seeing CCTV of the incident and hearing from two female door stewards who were trying to stop trouble.
The trial earlier heard that Jordan Greig had thrown a drink over Mr Dunn before being thrown out.
Mr Dunn went to the door to demand to know why it had happened, and CCTV footage showed David Greig throw a punch at him before his brother leapt in.
Jordan Greig then threw a punch while holding the tumbler after Mr Dunn approached him.
Before the brothers were sentenced, Jordan Greig was acquitted of a separate assault.
He had been on trial accused of assaulting health care worker Jade Whitton to her severe injury and permanent impairment in Inverness’s High Street on August 16.
A jury heard that a man had swung a punch at Greig, he retaliated by throwing a punch but he struck Ms Whitton rather than his intended target.
But a jury found him not guilty by a majority of the assault after a two day trial.
