The father of a schoolboy who was knocked over in a Highland town was one of the first people on the scene of the accident.
An eyewitness said Kevin Davidson arrived within two minutes of the crash happening at Dornoch in Sutherland, after realising there had been an incident and going along to offer to help.
He only realised when he arrived that it was his own nine-year-old son Dylan who had been knocked down.
The collision happened in Evelix Road, about 300 yards from the local primary and secondary schools, beside the path to the Willows housing development, on November 27.
The eyewitness said Mr Davidson arrived on foot from the direction of the school “within two minutes” of the collision.
They added: “He only realised it was his son when he arrived at the scene and you could tell he was very distraught, but was trying to keep it together.
“The atmosphere was very sad but I would say that everyone was keeping calm. Everyone was doing a lot to help. People were getting out of their cars to see if they could do anything.
“I think I was just in shock really but I just felt sad to see a wee boy like that.
Last night a police spokeswoman said Dylan remained in a “stable but critical condition” in hospital in Edinburgh.
Following the collision, the Rev Susan Brown, of Dornoch Cathedral, wrote a prayer on the church’s page on social media which has since been viewed several thousand times.
She also said the community had been “devastated” by what had happened, and offered prayers to his classmates and friends.
Evelix Road was closed for several hours following the accident as investigators examined a black Renault Clio at the scene.
