The north was hit by bad weather from east to west last night as heavy snow caused chaos on the A9 and flooding closed an Argyll supermarket.
The clean-up operation continued yesterday after a spell of horrendous weather in Argyll.
Oban was subjected to extreme localised flooding, with gales, heavy rain, thunder, hail and lightening hitting the town over the last two days.
Heavy snow at Dalwhinnie led to a lorry becoming stuck and causing tailbacks on the southbound lane of the A9 last night. Police received the call at 4.20pm.
A police spokeswoman said: “It seems to have been stuck on an ice patch at the Dalwhinnie turnoff on the southbound lane of the A9.”
Oban’s Tesco superstore reopened at 8am yesterday after a deluge of heavy rain brought the ceiling down at around 5pm on Wednesday. A section of the roof above the biscuit aisle collapsed, sending water all over the goods, after rain battered the town all day.
A spokesman for Tesco said: “Colleagues worked overnight to get everything back to normal.”
Meanwhile, part of the town’s High Street was closed off when the render on the side of a building became loose.
Inspector Mark Stephen of Oban Police Station said: “We had to close the road and get Argyll and Bute Council out to make it safe.”
The council’s building control department secured the area and protect the public.
A council spokesman said: “Contractors will need to erect scaffolding to remove the render. It is expected this will be complete by Saturday.”
A diversion is in place via Albany Street and Drimvargie road.
