The fisherman who died after falling overboard while working off Wester Ross has been named as Gary Forbes, of Aultbea, in Wester Ross.
The 36-year-old was one of two crew on the Castlebay-registered creel boat, Barnacle, when the incident happened near the Summer Isles.
Mr Forbes, who fell overboard at around 10.40am on Tuesday, was recovered from the water by his workmate. Mr Forbes attended Gairloch High School and Telford College in Edinburgh. It is understood the Barnacle usually works out of Aultbea and Gairloch.
A police spokesman yesterday said: “On Tuesday May 13, police received notification that HM Coastguard had been called to a maritime incident involving a fishing vessel near Tanera Beag, off the coast of the Summer Isles, near Achiltibuie.
“A man was recovered from the water and flown by Coastguard helicopter to the Western Isles Hospital. As a result of the incident, the man sadly died.
“Police inquires are continuing with assistance from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch and Coastguard.”
He added that a report had been submitted to the fiscal.
The Ullapool to Stornoway ferry, the MV Isle of Lewis, went to assist with the rescue operation. It diverted from its route from Wester Ross to the Western Isles and was among a group of boats that joined the search for Mr Forbes.
