A young woman has been transferred to hospital in Aberdeen after being injured in a road accident in the Highlands.
The 19-year-old driver suffered serious injuries after the incident on the A87 Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh road on Saturday afternoon.
She was initially taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness immediately following the accident.
But yesterday, a police spokesman confirmed that she was to be transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for further treatment.
Her injuries are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening.
A female passenger who was also in the car when it went off the road escaped injury.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened between Invergarry and Bun Loyne, east of the junction with the unclassified road to Tomdoun.
The road was closed for around an hour as emergency services dealt with the accident.
A fire crew from Fort Augustus was called to the scene after fears that there might be people trapped in the vehicle, but they were stood down soon afterwards.
A spokesman for the service said: “We helped to clear the road and secure the vehicle, making the scene safe.”
The damaged car was later recovered and taken to a garage in Fort Augustus.
The silver Renault Clio suffered significant damage to its front end and its roof was badly dented.
The passenger-side door also showed signs of damage, while the roof and front end were also covered in mud.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
A police spokesman said: “Two people were within the vehicle, both women.
“The driver was taken to Raigmore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“She was kept in overnight as a precaution and is to be transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for further treatment.
“There was no injuries to the passenger.”
