A convicted murderer who absconded while on day release from prison remained at large last night.
James Casey was given a life sentence for battering father-of-two Ian MacBeth with a hammer and leaving him to die in Invergordon in 1990.
Specialist officers from across Scotland have been drafted in to join the hunt for James Casey, who failed to return to HMP Castle Huntly near Dundee after day release last Thursday.
Police believe that he may have travelled to Inverness and have warned the public not to approach him.
It was confirmed last night that he remained on the run as police confirmed that their inquiries are ongoing.
It is understood that a number of possible sightings have been investigated across the country.
Casey was convicted at the High Court in Inverness of murdering Mr MacBeth, 37, who was the manager of Invergordon Social and Recreational Club.
Casey is 5ft 8in, with receding hair and brown eyes.
When last seen he was wearing a blue coat, black hooded top, blue jeans and brown walking boots.
Police urged anyone with information on Casey’s whereabouts to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
