A young Scottish sportswoman has reached a fundraising target to have her leg amputated.
Hope Gordon’s crowdfunding appeal to find £10,000 ended at midnight on Sunday with enough to proceed with the operation.
She had raised £9,060 on a Justgiving page and that amount was bolstered by personal donations.
Hope, from Rogart in Sutherland, said she was “absolutely gobsmacked” by all the donations.
The biggest so far came from an American – known just as Ron. Giving £1,000, he simply wrote: “Dear Hope, I wish you all the very best for your immediate and long term goals, it would be great to see you compete in Rio.”
Staff at her uncle Ray’s workplace have also given her £400 after a whip round.
Medical staff previously told Hope, 21, she could not have the surgery on the NHS.
The world-class rower and swimmer was just 12 when a kickabout at school set off the neurological condition Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
Hope, a Stirling-based student, who wants to represent Team GB at next year’s Paralympics, has been trying to arrange an amputation on her left leg for six years.
